WORCESTER City manager John Snape gave his reaction to Saturday's 1-1 draw with Loughborough University in the Midland League Premier Division.

Josh Willis scored for City moments before half-time against the struggling visitors but the Victoria Ground hosts got caught by a sucker punch late in the game when Matty Olapo levelled.

Snape admitted: "I like the way Loughborough play. They try to play everywhere, I think it's a great philosophy.

"When it does go wrong they continue to try to play. At times we did but sometimes it's horses for courses and you've got to do what's in front of you.

"But we have probably made too many nice passes and not gone anywhere, putting ourselves under pressure.

"We should have got the ball into the front three quicker and isolated them (Loughborough) higher up the pitch.

"We have carved a couple of good openings out in the first half.

"Tyler Weir has put one over the bar when I expected him to work the goalkeeper a lot more.

"Josh has scored from probably our best move of the game down our right-hand side.

"We came in at half-time probably a bit disappointed in that we had given the ball away under no pressure.

"They did pressure well in the middle of the park, I thought they were excellent at that, but they should do with only one up front.

"We didn't have the quality when we had time on the ball. That can be down to the movement or the person on the ball.

"In the second half Jordan Harrison has been guilty of missing a great chance with a header.

"He followed on with a chance with a shot that somehow he has put over the bar which is disappointing for him.

"Nick Turton has come on and had one just outside the penalty spot where he has put the ball over the bar as well.

"The disappointment is we haven't worked the goalkeeper.

"From there we haven't managed the game properly, not throwing it in behind, on a day when our top players haven't performed. They have been average at best.

"But I expect them as players to manage the game.

"I think Luke English has got a deflection on their goal so we scored both goals in the game.

"They have only got one player in our box and I think we have got three or four.

"In a game that was very entertaining neither side have worked the keepers for the whole game.

"We have got ourselves in front and again haven't managed the game but we haven't been beaten.

"Yes, everyone expects three points but on another day they could have been out of sight before that chance.

"We have gone a bit gung-ho at the end. That game management isn't quite right but we'll live and learn from it.

"We'll go again at Highgate United on Saturday (in the league). A couple of training sessions this week will be good.

"We stopped the rot at home, got ourselves a point and it's a long, long season.

"The biggest disappointment for me is we made too many passes instead of getting it into the right areas.

"We let them keep their shape and keep it nice and tight. We're trying to go through sixes and sevens in a very tight area.

"The introduction of the subs maybe didn't have the impact we wanted. They didn't really get into the game.

"Then the frustration set in. People trying to do too much on the ball once we had gone to 1-1 instead of really playing two-touch.

"We had a ball in their last third and have got crowded out because we wanted to make it perfect.

"We'll look at that in the week. But I still want us to play, we have got some good players."

But Snape did have praise for defensive midfielder Joel Caines.

The City boss added: "Joel joined the club in the summer. I want him to get on the ball and pass it better but he does the horrible things really well.

"He's got himself into some great positions defensively for us and protected the ball. He's started off a lot of the movement by passing it five and 10 yards.

"I don't think he's given many balls away compared to others. The creative side is not part of his game yet but we're working on that together.

"He was one of the better players. If we had another five we might have won the game."
