INJURED back rower Marco Mama is expected to miss Worcester Warriors’ next two Gallagher Premiership fixtures.

Director of rugby Alan Solomons said he would “rather not push him in too early” as Mama recovers from a hamstring issue.

Mama’s hamstring tendon was used for the reconstruction of his anterior cruciate ligament last season when he damaged his knee.

But Solomons said the operation had created “a lot of scar tissue” that needed to repair before Mama could return to action.

The 27-year-old has not featured since his try-scoring display in Warriors’ 52-7 thrashing of Bristol Bears at Sixways in early October.

And Solomons said Mama was unlikely to play in Worcester’s home clash with Harlequins on Friday (7.45pm) and the derby with Gloucester at Kingsholm a week on Saturday (3pm).

But he was confident the forward would be fit for Warriors’ league game against Northampton Saints at Sixways on Friday, December 21.

“At the moment I very much doubt that he will be back for this Premiership block,” Solomons said.

“It just takes a longer time.

“There is a lot of scar tissue that has got to be fixed up because of the op and he will be fine.

“But we have got to do it right and rather not push him in too early.

“He will be ready for the next block but I don’t believe he will play in this block.

“He won’t be resting, he will be doing rehabilitation.

“There are things that you can do that can help with his fitness but it will be off-feet conditioning.”

Academy star Ollie Lawrence sat out Warriors’ 28-13 defeat at Bath on Saturday with a shin injury sustained in the Premiership Cup victory at Leicester Tigers.

But Solomons insisted it was not a major problem and reckoned the centre would be back in contention for selection this week.

“As a precaution the medics felt there was too much of a risk for him to play in the Bath game,” Solomons said.

“It’s his shin. It was a little bit of a dead leg that he picked up at Leicester and hasn’t completely healed.

“We had a big discussion about it last Thursday.

“He practised that day but had a little bit of a reaction.

“As he is a young, promising player it was felt that it was not worth the risk.”
