TWO Cheltenham League derbies went the way of Malvern Cave and Malvern Vale Firsts.

Second-placed Cave won 4-1 at Malvern Vale Reserves in Division Four with Joel Hobbs' double added to by strikes from Toby Boswell and Ralph N'dongo.

Ashley Dallow replied for the mid-table hosts who had Joe Turner sent off.

Vale Firsts beat Welland Reserves 3-0 in Division Three to end their visitors' 100 per cent league record.

They gained revenge after suffering their only defeat in the competition to Welland 2-1 away in September.

In a tight and at times feisty encounter, the visitors tried to soak up the pressure while looking to counter-attack through Jamie Harding against a Vale defence that had only conceded one goal in 310 minutes.

The hosts' Andre Rodrigues, Mig Passaro and Anthony Cakebread had long-range efforts saved by Adam Went or go just wide.

Vale centre-half Jordan Richards appeared to be hauled down but the penalty appeals were waved away.

Mario Vieira's 30-yard free-kick was taken by Went but Vale broke through on the stroke of half-time.

Rodrigues supplied Passaro whose chip dropped over Went from just inside the area and into the far corner of the net.

The goal opened the game up in the second half and a Welland volley from the edge of the area was spectacularly tipped onto the bar by keeper Marcin Celmer.

On the hour Vale introduced substitutes Nick Jones and Ashley Griffiths who both made an impact.

With 15 minutes left Passaro did well on the left and his cross was volleyed in by Jones.

As Welland pushed to pull a goal back Vale skipper Jamie Jones cleared a corner and Griffiths latched onto the ball on the halfway line.

After flying past a few defenders he coolly slotted past Went to seal the victory.
