DIRECTOR of rugby Alan Solomons expects flanker Ted Hill to play a “big role” for Worcester Warriors this season after being released from England duty.

Hill claimed his first senior international cap at the weekend after coming off the bench for the final five minutes of England’s victory over Japan at Twickenham.

Solomons said it was a “good call” by head coach Eddie Jones to give the 19-year-old the chance to play an autumn Test.

And he admitted he was looking forward to having the academy ace back at Sixways as Warriors prepare for Friday’s Premiership home meeting with Harlequins (7.45pm).

“He is a terrific young player and I can understand Eddie wanting to give him that opportunity,” Solomons said.

“I am not entirely surprised about it and think he will be better for the experience of working in the England camp and being involved in the matchday 23 even though he only got a short cameo.

“He has not had too many Premiersihp matches before he was thrust into the England side.

“But he fully deserved it.

“It’s a good call and he has now had that experience.

“I look forward to him coming back to us and playing a big role in our team.”

Centre Ben Te’o is one of 26 players retained by England to prepare for Saturday’s test against Australia at Twickenham (3pm).

The 31-year-old missed out on a place in Jones’ side to face Japan and did not feature in Warriors’ 28-13 defeat at Bath last weekend either.

Hill, meanwhile, has been released by England and is poised to go straight back into the starting 15 when they take on Quins.

“There is a massive difference between Ben and Ted at the moment,” Solomons said.

“Ben was injured at the start of the season. He could not do the pre-season so he started the season very late.

“Ben’s first game of rugby this year was the 30 minutes he got against Ospreys.

“He had two or three training sessions before that.

“Ted has been with us from the start of the season and been in almost every training session.

“I can’t remember him missing too many.

“He also played in the pre-season friendlies, so he has been involved with this team right from the word go.

“He is a level-headed good man and an outstanding rugby player.”

Along with Te’o Solomons also anticipates being without with wing Josh Adams and hooker Joe Taufete’e this weekend.

Adams is in the running to play in Wales’ Test against South Africa at the Principality Stadium on Saturday (5.20pm) and Taufete’s is set to start in USA’s daunting tussle with Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday (6.30pm).

But Solomons is hoping to be boosted by the availability of fly-half Duncan Weir who has been training with Scotland ahead of their clash with Argentina on Saturday (2.30pm).

“I don’t know whether he is going to play as Gregor (Townsend, Scotland head coach) has got to make that decision,” Solomons added.

“Of course we would like Duncan back.

“The two guys that we have a reasonable prospect of getting back because we have had them back in the past are Ted and Duncan.”
