STAR scrummager Nick Schonert reckons he is becoming “part of the furniture” at Worcester Warriors and says there is “no real need to move on”.

The 27-year-old tighthead prop has been a consistent performer for Warriors since joining from Cheetahs in the summer of 2014.

He helped Worcester gain promotion from the Championship in his debut season and is just 14 appearances away from becoming a club centurion.

His powerful performances in the scrum have also seen him gain international recognition as he represented England for the first time in a non-cap clash against Barbarians at Twickenham in May.

And Schonert has remained part of national boss Eddie Jones’ plans, underlining his status as a prize asset for Warriors.

South Africa-born Schonert revealed his contract was due to expire at the end of the 2019-20 season but he had no desire to leave in the near future.

“I have just bought a house,” Schonert said.

“I really enjoy the coaching staff here and Solly (Alan Solomons, director of rugby) looks after me.

“He knows how to get the best out of me so I am really happy where I am at the moment.

“There is no real need to move on.

“Maybe one day when I am 30-something I’ll go to France and get fat on cakes and croissants and have wine and cheese. Then the time will come.

“But for now I am enjoying my time here.”

Schonert described Sixways as a “lovely place to be” and felt the Gallagher Premiership outfit had given him “peace of mind”.

“Solly has spoken about the core of the group and there is a great bunch of boys here,” Schonert said.

“When I come into work every day I get a bit of a kick in my step.

“It’s a great environment and we have got really good strength and conditioning and medical staff.

“They really look after the boys so I am very happy.”

Schonert has been training with England this month but said it was easy for him to slot back in at Warriors when he returned from international duty.

“I have been here going on five years now,” Schonert said.

“I am becoming part of the furniture so it does not take that long (to adjust).”

Schonert is still awaiting his first cap and was not selected to train with England ahead of Saturday’s Test with Australia at Twickenham (3pm).

But he insisted he was fully focused on putting his best foot forward for Warriors as they host Harlequins tomorrow (7.45pm) “I can’t be frustrated as the other two tighthead props have done really well and that’s why they deserve their spot,” Schonert said.

“I have got to keep on chipping away and improving myself.

“Sometimes you can be so focused on what is ahead you can forget who you are.

“What you are makes them look at you so you have got to keep working on your game and that’ll maybe turn their heads.

“A bit of advice Donncha (O’Callaghan) gave me was that your currency is in your performance.

“You have got to keep on being hungry.

“It was a great feeling (being involved with England) but it does not mean I am going to sit back and relax.

“I have got to kick on and see where I can get to next.”
