WORCESTER City hope to close loan deals for a pair of Football League prospects ahead of Saturday’s clash with Westfields (3pm).

Manager John Snape remained tight-lipped on the identities of the centre-half and forward he ran the rule over alongside right-hand man Ashley Vincent last week but confirmed temporary signings could be imminent.

“We are looking at extra avenues and have taken a look at both of the lads involved,” said Snape.

“The fitness and sharpness you get from full-time training was what stood out. We’re confident they’ve been brought through in the right way and hopeful over getting something sorted out.”

The boost would be timely for City with a number of players reporting injury concerns.

Luke English was withdrawn from Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Long Eaton with a foot injury and is unlikely to recover in time.

Nick Turton’s knock to the head will probably keep him out at the weekend but Jamie Smith hopes to train tonight after suffering a problem with his knee at Highgate on Saturday.

Mat Birley should recover from a calf strain and could start, while Mason Birch (dead leg) and Joel Caines (ankle) will be assessed. Captain Jordan Stoddart has been advised to sit out training in the hope of being fit to play on Saturday.
