JAMIE Smith could be in line for a positional switch as Worcester City look to provide more ammunition for the frontline.

Smith, who missed the midweek trip to Long Eaton with a knee injury, has played at left-back and centre-half so far this season.

He initially came through as a winger under Carl Heeley in National North but has been utilised in defensive positions during the Midland Football League era up to now.

But with Snape recently highlighting the need to produce more in the final third, the homegrown talent has entered his thinking for a more advanced role.

"There might be a new role for Jamie in the squad, maybe getting him further forward," said Snape.

"I want to see those balls going into the box a little bit quicker and into better areas. That's something we could look at in the next couple of weeks."

How or whether Smith gets used against Westfields tomorrow (3pm) will depend on the outcome of a series of fitness tests for City's squad.

Luke English was withdrawn during Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Long Eaton United with a foot injury and is unlikely to recover in time.

Nick Turton’s knock to the head will probably keep him out while Mason Birch (dead leg) and Joel Caines (ankle) are set to be assessed.

Player-coach Mat Birley should recover from a calf strain and it is hoped captain Jordan Stoddart can start after sitting out training on Thursday.

The concerns arrive hot on the heels of a handful of departures with Tyler Weir leaving for the offer of a contract at Gloucester City, Adam Osbourne heading to league rivals Sporting Khalsa and Joe Bates seeking more first-team opportunities at Bishop's Cleeve.

However, Snape is content with his lot – particularly City's up-and-coming talent.

"You could look at it as being thin on the ground but earlier in the season we probably had too many," he added.

"The likes of Riley Keasey, Josh Willis and Liam Lockett have really emerged and taken their chances, especially in recent weeks.

"Despite the injuries we have, with the players we have who I know are desperate to play this game should be seen as a big opportunity.

"We are playing a potential title rival and with no game next Saturday, this will be a good test of how much we want it.

"Westfields have a footballing side that likes to get it down and play the right way but so do we.

"If it is a game of football I would put us up against anyone in this league. This is just the sort of game we should all be looking forward to and the lads certainly are."
