KING'S School Worcester pupils secured a fifth place at the English Schools’ Swimming Association Secondary Teams final.

Eight girls raced at London Aquatic Centre after finishing in the top 30 nationally at regional qualifiers.

King's sent competitors for the third year in a row to face specialist swimming schools and reached finals at the event for the first time.

The intermediate team of Isabella Trow, Gabriella Barry, Hannah Woodcock and Alexandra Barry qualified 11th and 13th for the medley and freestyle relays respectively.

They finished fifth in the freestyle final after going through seventh from the heats.

The girls then got seventh in the medley final after improving on their heat time which had placed them in the same position.

King's senior team of Josie Armstrong, Isabella Woodcock, Hannah Dixon and Josie Ross qualified for the medley in 29th.

The girls went up seven places in the rankings to gain 22nd place.

Their swimming teacher Lizzie Monkhouse said: "When your team reduces you to tears you know they have achieved something special!"
