MANAGER John Snape insists every match is a chance for rookies to shine at Worcester City – not just minor cup competitions.

City host landlords Bromsgrove Sporting in a Worcestershire Senior Urn semi-final at the Victoria Ground tomorrow (7.45).

Each Urn and Midland Football League Cup tie has seen Worcester ring the changes so far this season and while Snape may do so again, he refuted any suggestion that it would be a chance for youngsters to shine.

“We have two 17-year-old lads from Cheltenham and three 18-year-olds from our youth set-up who were all in the squad on Saturday,” said Snape.

“Kyonn Evans and Jordan Stoddart are 26, Sam Gilder and Mat Birley are the only players aged over 30 so it is more the case that we are playing the kids.

“We always want to keep it young and competitive, especially with the turnaround of games in such a short period of time.”

The match fitness of new signings Kaoui Attoumani and Jamal Lawrence will be assessed ahead of the team being selected with player-coach Mat Birley a doubt with a recurring calf strain.

Luke English remains sidelined by a foot injury.

“It is about trying to get back to winning ways,” Snape added.

“We were disappointed to concede the equaliser late on at Khalsa but when we look back, we went behind and after what happened against Westfields still got ourselves a result against a very well-established team in this division.”

With Bromsgrove making the shortest of trips for an away match at their own headquarters, City chiefs are hoping for a bumper crowd.

“It is testament to Bromsgrove and Worcester that when we do meet in any competition the turnout is very good,” said Snape.

“There were a lot of people there last season and had the New Year’s Day game gone ahead, I think the crowd would have been the highest in the Midlands up as far as the National League.

“Hopefully there will be a few there because we will get it down and play, I think Bromsgrove will do the same so it will be a good game all round.”
