ASSISTANT manager Ashley Vincent reckons speculation over the future of Worcester City boss John Snape is “ridiculous”.

Chairman Steve Goode publicly supported Snape on the back of fans questioning his future on social media but it came with the caveat that finishing outside the top three or four “would not be acceptable to me”.

Snape’s right-hand man made the case for a moderate approach to City’s recent dip in form and for consideration to be given to what resources the club has available.

Vincent, who said he had not read the comments, said: “That’s football, I have been in it long enough to know there are two sets of people – fans and supporters.

“Supporters support the team, fans tend to have stronger opinions and there is space for both in the game.

“The fans that voice their opinions are perfectly entitled to do that but I would wonder what their opinion was when we went 15 matches unbeaten.

“It was still the manager picking the side, I wonder whether back then they would have wanted him on a long-term contract?

“We have a really young side and I don’t think we have the biggest budget in the league. Our lads are developing and we’re trying to get them playing the right way.

“The pitches will turn at this time of year and we will have to play horses for courses at times but when we can get it down and play, we will do that.

“We think we do things properly here and the manager is the focal point of that, he sets out those guidelines and I think you would struggle to get anyone better at this level or the level above.

“As much as I haven’t heard anything, if I did I would think it ridiculous.”
