MANAGER John Snape hopes to fend off a double raid from above for Worcester City’s club and team captains.

Jordan Stoddart is the subject of an approach from Southern Premier Central outfit Redditch United, while Northern Premier League East backmarkers Gresley have swooped for George Forsyth.

Snape has agreed to waive the standard seven-day notice period for both players to talk to their suitors in the hope of receiving a decision at or after training tonight.

The City boss has a hunch Forsyth, recently approached by league rivals Walsall Wood, will stay but he is not so bullish about retaining Stoddart’s services.

Stoddart, 26, dropped a level to join hometown club City from Cirencester Town in November 2017 and has featured 53 times, scoring two goals.

Moving to the Reds would represent a two-tier jump for the centre-half who has not played since December 29 due to suspension and the hamstring injury that would have prevented him from featuring in tomorrow’s trip to Midland Football League Premier Division leaders Ilkeston Town (3pm).

“The attraction for Jordan is to play at a higher level and that may be something he wants to pursue," said Snape.

“I am still awaiting the outcome but he has spoken to Redditch and I should know by the time we train."

Forsyth has netted in each of his past four matches, taking to 14 goals in 64 matches his tally in blue and white.

The 22-year-old midfielder or defender has donned the captain's armband in each of City's league games since club captain Stoddart was dropped for a match in the wake of the 6-1 drubbing by Westfields in October.

“Gavin Hurren got the Gresley (manager’s) job recently, there is a connection and he is interested in taking George. We are confident he will stay but we haven’t had that rubber stamped.

“Both are integral parts of the squad and team and we hope to retain their services.”

Snape said he had no approaches in for players currently representing other clubs but that he planned to run the rule over “a couple” of prospects at training tonight.
