DROITWICH Amateur Boxing Club’s Joe Doyle collected his fifth Midlands Championship title with a devastating display and TKO victory in Stoke on Sunday.

The 16-year-old stopped Ekham Dhaliwall in the third round of their contest to take the 52kg youth cadet title with a performance that puts him in confident mood for his tilt at the ABA national crown which begins this weekend.

Doyle showed no fear against an opponent who was unbeaten in his last 10 fights and went on the offensive from the first bell as he scored well with an outstanding mix of body shots and counter punches.

Having lost the first round, Dhaliwall from the Capital Boxing Club in Coventry tried to impose himself at the start of the second but was caught on the chin by a straight right hand from Doyle that resulted in a standing count from the referee.

Doyle launched his opponent into the ropes with another savage right hand in the third that brought another standing count before the Blessed Edward Oldcorne College pupil finished the contest with another barrage of punches that forced the referee to step in and stop proceedings.

“Joe stamped his authority on the fight from the outset and it really was an outstanding performance against a dangerous opponent with an excellent record,” said Jayson Doyle, the boxer’s father and Droitwich ABC coach.

“He’s in great shape and we’ll be aiming for another strong display when we go back up to Stoke on Sunday to meet the champion from Tyne and Wear in the ABA national pre quarter-finals.”
