WORCESTER men’s seconds took top billing with a convincing 6-3 West Midlands Premier Division home win over Cannock thirds.
With several games postponed due to frozen pitches, the seconds stepped up despite conceding an early first goal from a penalty corner.
Worcester swiftly levelled via a Ross Leighton strike from Jeremy Drake’s through-ball.
In another fast break Rob Goodman put them ahead for the first time.
A penalty-corner drag-flick put Cannock level but Worcester’s Dan Rickman finished off a fine move to make it 3-2. However, another penalty-corner strike from Cannock equalised before half-time.
Worcester played some of their best hockey in the second half with Ethan Mcdonald-Smith, Rickman and Tom Scotson linking well.
The hard-working Ryan Harding got his reward with a goal to put Worcester in front again.
Matt Hooper got to the baseline and a scramble in the D saw a penalty flick awarded which Drake despatched.
Worcester sealed the game with a final goal from Rickman.
The fourths made it four wins on the bounce by beating second-placed Bridgnorth thirds 5-4 at home in South West Two despite conceding three early goals.
Worcester pulled two back through Matthew Sharratt and Billy Forrester-Walker.
They equalised in the second period with a reverse-stick strike into the bottom corner.
A quick breakaway saw the visitors regain the lead but Worcester levelled when Paul Simons put away a penalty flick.
Worcester went ahead for the final time and the win was sealed when a Bridgnorth breakaway was halted by keeper Liam Gdanis.
The fifths had most of the possession but lost 5-3 to Redditch thirds in South West Two with Jack Barnes, Alex Kloda and Andy Waters scoring.
Worcester sevenths lost 6-1 to Solihull Blossomfield thirds in South West Three with a penalty-corner strike from Russell Boatman.
The women’s seconds played their first Worcestershire League Division One game back from the festive break against Redditch firsts.
After a slow start they led 3-1 at the break before taking control in the second half to win 7-1.
Libby Wycherley scored four goals with two from Clare Hayes and a penalty-corner strike from Liz McCann.
Worcester thirds beat Bromsgrove fifths 3-1 in Division Two through Olivia Fletcher, Ellen Barlow and Kerry Lawrence.
The fourths drew 1-1 at home to Tenbury seconds in Division Three with Jodie Dodgson scoring a well-taken goal.
A mistake gifted Tenbury an equaliser in the first half and Worcester could not find a winner in a dominant second period.
