Swimming: Worcester stars win Worcestershire golds

They came away from Wolverhampton with numerous age-group medals and a senior county title for Olivia Fletcher.

Fletcher powered to victory in the women's 1,500 metres in 17 minutes 42.36 seconds.

She won her first senior county title by more than 20 seconds.

Bryony Lowe, who has moved back full-time to Worcester, won the girls' 14 year group in 18.53.56.

Heather Castle claimed bronze in the 17 year and over category, finishing in 18.45.83 only 10 seconds off the silver medal.

Lucy Sadler was unlucky not to pick up a bronze after being edged into fourth in the 15 year group.

William Thomas won gold in the boys' 12 year group in 22.22.84.

Club captain Aaron Cook pushed eventual gold medallist Patrick Meggitt from City of Hereford all the way, taking silver in 17.13.51.

There was an 800m gold for David Annis in the 13 year category in 9.30.68 to win by nearly a minute.

Thomas had to settle for bronze in the 12 year group, pipped in the last 25m by club-mate William Pridden for silver.

Pridden clocked 11.23.74 and Thomas 11.24.99.

Daniel Kearley finished ahead of Jack Sweeney in the 15 year category with the swimmers taking silver and bronze in 9.46.15 and 10.02.96 respectively.

Cook was again edged out by Meggitt in the 17 year and over group after finishing in 8.51.23 for silver.

Lowe bagged another gold in the girls' 14 year category in 9.57.52.

Sadler held off a late challenge from her Redditch rival to snatch bronze in 10.15.74 in the 15 year group.

The final medals for Worcester came in the 17 years and over category courtesy of Madeleine Hoare and Castle.

There was nothing to separate the swimmers for 775m with the race coming down to a sprint finish.

Hoare won gold on the last stroke in 9.55.47 with Castle getting silver in 9.55.65.

Other Worcester swimmers in action included Bethan Stokes (11.14.39), Lydia Cooper (10.40.41) and Madeleine Fox-Haskins (10.05.57) who finished just outside the medals.
