KING’S Worcester swimmers enjoyed a successful Bromsgrove School Invitational Relays Gala at Perdiswell Leisure Centre.

Twenty-five schools attended from as far afield as Nottingham and Bedford.

King’s reached seven A finals out of eight among the 4x50-metre freestyle and medley relays in the under 15 and 18 age groups.

The girls’ under 15s team of Alexandra Barry, Bella Barry, Izzy Trow and Hannah Woodcock won both relays by over five metres.

Just days before, two members of the boys’ under 15s team withdrew due to injury.

Charlie Dixon, 12, rose to the challenge with Daniel Day, Leo Rendall-Baker and Sam Hawes as they finished fourth in the medley and fifth in the freestyle A finals.

Due to another injury, Alexandra Barry swam up an age group for the girls’ under 18s with Bella Woodcock, Hannah Dixon and Naomi Marsden.

Hannah Woodcock replaced her sister Bella for the freestyle relay.

The girls were almost two seconds faster in their A finals than heats and secured second behind Kettering’s Southfield School in both relays.

For the boys’ under 18s, Sam Hartley was joined by the younger Day, Rendall-Baker and Hawes.

They were sixth in the medley A final and fourth in the freestyle B final.

Day, Rendall-Baker, Hawes and Alexandra Barry competed in eight 50m races in a quick turnaround.

Lizzie Monkhouse, head of King’s senior school swimming, said: “Swimming is going from strength to strength at King’s which is shown by their great achievement at such a high standard competition.

“I am delighted that the swimmers are reaping the rewards for all their hard work and commitment in the pool.”
