HEAD coach Ryan Emery reckons Worcester Wolves women’s clash with unbeaten leaders Nottingham Trent University is “going to be a war” tomorrow (4pm).

The table-toppers arrive at the University of Worcester’s St John’s Campus Sports Centre with seven victories from seven games in National League Division Two North.

But Emery is treating the encounter as a “12-round boxing match” and believes his resurgent fifth-placed side will have a fighting chance of pulling off a shock if they battle until the death.

“This is going to be a war,” he said. “We are going to have to dig deep and fight like hell.

“They are top of the league and undefeated for a good reason but we are feeling positive and happy with where we are as a group.

“It is going to be two great teams going at each other, battling for every loose ball. The winner will be who fights harder.

"It won’t be decided on skill, it will be decided on how many times you get knocked down, get back up and continue to fight.

“If we come out on top then great. If we don’t then we will get better for the next game.”

After losing their opening three games Wolves beat Myerscough College 56-50, Lancashire Spinners 74-36, Derby Trailblazers 76-70 and Derbyshire Diamonds 63-61.

“We are really happy with the progress we are making and we are now starting to turn those tight losses into tight victories,” Emery said.

“Hopefully we can continue to do that. Derbyshire beat us up big time so we showed great character to overcome that.”

Emery believes Wolves’ performances have lifted since the arrival of Estonian forward Maia Bartka in December.

“I found Maia on LinkedIn as I was looking for players and we got in touch,” he added.

“I am very thankful that the club got the move across the line as she is not only a great player but a great person too.

“She is averaging 22 points and 17 rebounds per game at the minute but the girls are finding her in the right spots.”
