WORCESTER City opened up a 14-point lead at the top of NERF Junior Premier League Under-12s Midlands South by beating nearest rivals Birmingham City 2-1 at Perdiswell.

Oliver Piekarski and Charlie Lannie were on target to maintain a near-unblemished record against the second-placed Blues.

Birmingham have three games in hand but had gone into the clash unbeaten in the league this season.

Worcester’s under 16s lost 2-1 to a late strike in a friendly at Solihull Moors.

After falling behind in the 16th minute City came up against a keeper in fine form but eventually made the breakthrough when Matty Patrick-Rivers netted from the penalty spot 10 minutes from time only to concede a last-ditch winner.

Joel Owusu and Callum Harper were the goalscorers as a youthful reserve team won 2-1 at Coton Green in Midland Football League Reserve Division.
