MANAGER John Snape hopes an away day on the coach can help to bring Worcester City’s leaders of the future out of their shells.

City will travel together for tomorrow’s Midland Football League Premier Division trip to Quorn (3pm) with a view to bonding a squad that has seen a higher-than-anticipated turnover of players this season.

All of the outfield players that kicked off Worcester’s last league outing, a 1-0 home defeat to Long Eaton United, were aged 23 or under with a lack of experience evident at times.

Due to the distances involved, City tend to meet at the ground for most away fixtures so Snape is looking to reap every possible benefit while attempting to end a run of three straight league defeats with a first win since January 19.

“We are travelling on the bus tomorrow, doing things professionally,” said Snape.

“I think one of the big things we need to build is camaraderie among the lads, with the movement we have had this season it has led to a bit of difficulty.

“This will be the fifth game where we have had a pretty similar squad to choose from and it is time we started turning results around.

“Travelling together and having that team environment plays its part in character building. We do have some big characters in the squad, without doubt, and we need those young leaders to come to the front and take that side of it on further.

“It is about having the confidence to go out and win the games.”

Midfielder Kaoui Attoumani could return with player-coach Mat Birley also in contention after 45 minutes in Tuesday’s 1-0 friendly defeat against an RAF representative XI.

Jamie Smith remains sidelined by a long-standing neck complaint while Joel Caines misses out as expected after withdrawing from action on his return to the first team in midweek.

“There are no more reported injuries other than the ones we expected,” added Snape, who expects a stern examination against a team that toppled league leaders Ilkeston Town at the start of last month.

That was the third of three wins in a row but was followed by defeat in the MFL Cup to the same opponents, a draw at Boldmere and a defeat at Highgate.

“I know Carl (Abbott, Quorn manager) quite well and we know they are a footballing side,” said Snape.

“They will be well drilled and as fit as anyone so it will be a challenge but one I am looking forward to.”

Two stoppage-time headers from Luke English salvaged a 2-2 draw for City in the reverse fixture in September.

“It was probably the only result we gained that we didn’t deserve this season,” admitted Snape.
