WORCESTER Hockey Club's top teams could not build on their recent success.

After two wins the bottom-of-the-table men’s firsts lost 4-0 to fellow strugglers Sutton Coldfield in Midland League Division One.

The first 15 minutes looked positive with chances and quick passing going forward.

Worcester had one effort disallowed and several strikes on target but the visitors scored first.

Sutton then won multiple penalty corners with keeper Tom Dalton making a string of fine saves and Matt Kettley tackling well.

Despite well-worked plays from the hosts, Sutton came out with more aggression in the second half and bagged three more goals.

After three promising games the women’s firsts lost 5-1 at home to Harborne seconds in Midlands Feeder West.

They were not at their best and fell 3-0 down by half-time.

Worcester improved in the second period and were denied by the keeper until Tash Walker dispatched a reverse-stick shot.

But Harborne scored two more to stretch their advantage.

The men’s seconds lost 6-1 in the West Midlands Premier despite outplaying Edgbaston for most of the first half.

Keeper Mark Coppenhall made fine saves for Worcester but Edgbaston bossed the second half with a consolation from Rob Goodman.

The thirds lost 5-3 at Stourport in the South West Premier despite starting well and going ahead through Tom Lewis.

But the hosts equalised and two quick goals put them 3-1 up at half-time.

Worcester won a penalty corner slid home by Brett Pittam and a Luke Pillinger half-volley levelled matters with 10 minutes left.

But with Worcester tiring and having no substitutes Stourport capitalised in the final minutes with another two goals.

A depleted fourths team lost 2-0 at Sutton Coldfield in South West Two after conceding to a penalty corner just before half-time.

Worcester effectively played the second period with 10 men due to an injury to Conor Mehaffey but had more of the play.

Sutton doubled their lead with a solo effort though.

The fifths won 6-2 at home to Bromsgrove thirds in South West Two.

An errant pass was punished by the visitors but Tom Howard deflected in an Ollie Betteridge effort and got a second before the break.

Worcester added to their tally through Alex Kloda and Howard completed his hat-trick.

Bromsgrove replied before Kloda and skipper Tom Waters wrapped up the win.

The sixths went down 2-1 at Edgbaston in South West Three.

Terry Duffy slipped the ball for Andy Griffin to open the scoring for Worcester.

But they conceded a late equaliser and lost to a strike from a penalty corner.

The women’s seconds top Worcestershire League Division One after a 2-1 win over Bromsgrove thanks to Abby Marsh and Libby Wycherley.

The thirds lost 5-2 at Old Halesonians firsts in Division Two with Caitlin Davies and Kerry Lawrence scoring.

Worcester fourths drew 1-1 with Wyre Forest in Division Three after Grace Merchant put them ahead.

Ellie Seale defended well but Forest equalised towards the end of the first half.

Worcester Badgers Pippins saw off Stourport 7-2 with Ava Thornley, Joe Jackman, Ollie Davies (2), Finn Goodman (2) and Harry Dorman scoring.

The girls’ under 14s scored 13 against Cheltenham after being 5-0 up at half-time to top their league with two matches left.
