MARCO Mama is expected to be available for Worcester Warriors’ Gallagher Premiership battle against leaders Exeter Chiefs at Sixways on Saturday (3pm).

The back rower was forced off at Kingston Park last Sunday after sustaining a blow to his head in the 17-6 loss to relegation rivals Newcastle Falcons.

But director of rugby Alan Solomons said he was “pretty positive” Mama would be fit to face Chiefs as Warriors bid to pull off a shock victory.

“Marco is fine and is actually progressing really well,” Solomons said.

“He took a knock to the head so he goes through the return to play protocol but is progressing through that quite comfortably so I am pretty positive that he is going to play.”

With captain Gerrit-Jan van Velze facing two months on the sidelines after surgery to repair his fracture arm Mama has played at number eight for the past two games.

Solomons said he also felt he had other players that could lead the pack should Mama fail to recover in time.

“There are guys like Matt Cox who has played at number eight and we have also got Carl Kirwan and Matti Williams so we have got players that can play there,” Solomons said.

Hooker Jack Singleton will be miss out after damaging his elbow but Solomons said he had no other injury concerns ahead of the Exeter clash.

“There are the usual knocks, bumps and bruises but I think we should be OK,” Solomons added.
