SCOTLAND international back-row forward Cornell du Preez has resumed full training with Worcester Warriors having recovered from a fractured larynx.

Du Preez suffered the injury in an accidental collision with Wasps’ Joe Launchbury early in his competitive debut for Warriors in the opening Gallagher Premiership match of the season at Sixways on September 1.

The 27-year-old had surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and it was initially feared he would miss the rest of this season.

But du Preez resumed fitness training early in the new year and is now taking a full part in training.

Warriors have also re-registered Du Preez for the European Challenge Cup.

Warriors director of rugby Alan Solomons said: “Cornell is without doubt one of the toughest players I have ever coached and I am not surprised that he has made such a relatively quick recovery from what was a horrific injury.

“He is a terrific rugby player and it’s great to have him back in action.”

Solomons first worked with du Preez when he was director of rugby at Edinburgh.

He brought the six-times-capped du Preez to Sixways on a two-year contract last summer.
