CHAIRMAN Steve Goode revealed cash-strapped Worcester City turned down cheaper ground-sharing deals to stay at the Victoria Ground.

City will ply their trade at Bromsgrove Sporting’s home for a fourth successive season after exercising the option of a further year.

Pershore Town’s Community Stadium was among the alternatives on the table for Worcester who have been in exile since 2013.

Although Goode praised Pershore’s bosses he felt the lack of seating in the club’s main stand was the “biggest stumbling block”.

City forked out £17,760 in total to play at Bromsgrove last season and Goode said the cost would remain the same next term but felt it was a “very good deal”.

“We had spoken to other clubs, most of them were better offers financially but there were a few things that we would have had to do,” Goode said.

“It’s the best option to be where we are at the moment.

“It is awkward for fans to get to Bromsgrove, we all know that.

“But we think that people will want to go to that sort of stadium rather than a small ground.

“Some people will disagree with that and there is a possibility that we might have got bigger crowds at the other grounds that we looked at.

“But we are thinking more about the supporter.

“Pershore Town were one team we spoke to. (Chairman) Paul Loader and his committee have been absolutely outstanding and hopefully we will have a few games at Pershore next season.

“But unfortunately the thing that turned it was that the stand isn’t the biggest and we do get a lot of older people come to games that need to sit down.”

On the other grounds City looked at, Goode said: “We didn’t have in-depth talks with the other clubs.

“We looked from the outside in to see what they could offer us.

“Some fans want to get closer to Worcester but in our opinion (Bromsgrove) was the right move for us.”

Goode confirmed Sporting had offered City the chance to stay at the ground for a fifth year and would provide more space for advertising boards.

“Even though we will be paying out the same amount as last season, which I personally think is a very good deal for what we get, we will be financially better off,” Goode added.

“If we can start performing on the pitch and get people to come over (from Worcester) which I am sure they will I think it’ll be good.

“It’s a nice set-up there and they are very nice people to work with.

“Over the years Bromsgrove have had their issues too so it’s good to have a club like that as they understand what we are trying to do and want to help us.

“We got involved with the club last season when everything had already been put in place.

“But now we are going to try to link up more with Bromsgrove so they can promote Worcester City.

“We are trying to work together to benefit both clubs."
