A VETTING process will be put in place and no alcohol served at Worcester Raiders’ home matches in a bid to “ensure the safety” of supporters.

Raiders’ management committee has reviewed their match day arrangements for both home and away fixtures following “a number of alleged incidents”.

The Worcester club, top of West Midlands (Regional) League Division One, has also decided to not send fans to their potential title-deciding clash at second-placed Darlaston Town on April 13 and insisted: “Any supporters who turn up to this fixture will be refused entrance.”

The match will see the title rivals meet for the first time since their 1-1 draw last month which was marred by claims from Darlaston of “violence, racist and abusive comments”.

The top two are separated by three points pending the outcome of Raiders' abandoned match at Bustleholme.

Raiders had been leading 3-1 at York Road in the second minute of added time at the end of the 90 when a brawl involving players and staff from both teams and members of the crowd led to referee Pete Durnall prematurely calling time.

As things stand, Karl Gormley’s side have five games left in all competitions, including trips to Wellington Amateurs tomorrow (3pm) and Sikh Hunters on April 9.

In a statement posted on their Facebook page Raiders said supporters would only be allowed into those two matches if they had registered their intent to attend.

“A Worcester Raiders management committee member will be present at the entrance to these away matches to confirm the identity of those listed before they enter the away ground,” the statement read.

“During the fixture Worcester Raiders will be supervising these listed spectators.

“The home team will then be responsible for any other spectators they allow into their ground.”

Raiders also outlined measures for final their final two home games against Willenhall Town in the Division One League Cup on April 6 and Tipton Town in the league on April 20.

“There will be no alcohol served before or during the matches and the bar will be open for post- match hospitality for players, officials and committee members only,” the statement continued.

“Any alcohol brought onto the ground will be confiscated and returned post-match on departure from the ground.

“Spectators will be required to remain on the lower area adjacent to the pitch and will not be allowed to congregate by the club house. Club house access will be permitted only for toilets and teas, coffees, soft drinks.

“Home and away fans will be segregated and stewards will be in attendance.

“Worcester Raiders are taking the above measures to demonstrate their commitment to ensuring the safety and enjoyment of those who do come and support their club or the opposition.”
