TWO county residents have been temporarily banned from the football ground at Claines Lane by site managers Worcestershire FA.

Chief executive Nichola Trigg revealed the “known participants”, who have no current affiliation to any of the teams playing from the ground, had been written to on the back of evidence that “demonstrates behaviour we would not wish to see around football”.

Trigg stressed there had been no cases proven against the individuals yet but, as leaseholders of the land that the association plans to buy as part of its summer regeneration, permanent bans could still be enforced irrespective of any outcomes.

“Where we have concerns over behaviour that is currently under investigation — and it is important for me to say it is not yet proven — I have written to two Worcestershire residents to say they should not enter the ground at Claines Lane,” said Trigg.

“They are not currently attached to any of the teams that play up there but are known participants in the game.

“It is an interim arrangement while we conduct enquiries. If we raise a charge and it is proven, that could form part of the suspension which then could potentially affect other grounds.

“If it is found not proven on the balance of probability we may still make the choice to permanently exclude them from entering the premises in our role as leaseholder.

“The evidence we have to date demonstrates behaviour that we would not wish to see around football and is compelling enough to make an interim arrangement where they do not enter the ground.

“The overriding message is that we want to eradicate poor behaviour from football in general.

"We have to work within the framework we have to manage that but if people are behaving inappropriately at facilities managed by us we will take steps to remove them. They have no part in the game.

“Whether you are a supporter, player or manager, you want to have an enjoyable experience.

“It makes for quite a sombre feeling for everyone, including the clubs that play there, that we have people who think it is appropriate to behave in a manner that no one wants to see around any sport and ruin it for others.

“Whatever we can do to improve the game, we will do. Sometimes it is more difficult when the evidence is not compelling but if we can try to eradicate bad experiences then the game will be better for that.”
