DROITWICH Spa Boys and Girls Football Club’s Spartak under nines have been enjoying success.

The team lifted the Mercian Fortis Junior League's Vin Furlong Memorial Cup Plate with a 7-1 win over Newtown Sports Rangers in the final at Malvern Town.

Spartak needed to recover quickly as they went one goal down to their Malvern opponents after 10 minutes.

Once the nerves had settled and they found found their passing game, Spa equalised and then quickly went three goals up.

Another goal before half-time meant Spartak led 4-1 at the break.

A more relaxed Spartak team played an assured attacking style and netted three more times in the second period.

Head coach Richard Bennett said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the team. Every player has contributed to this cup run.

“It is a great achievement to have reward for all the hard work that the lads put into every game.

“We have had a fantastic season so far and it was great to see the team win the cup.

“Newtown were worthy opponents and we wish them well for the rest of the season.”
