WING Perry Humphreys is due to become the latest Worcester Warriors player to go under the knife – but his operation will put on hold until the summer.

The 24-year-old speedster has recently come back from a four-month lay-off with an ankle problem and started in Sunday’s win over Gloucester at Sixways.

However director of rugby Alan Solomons said Humphreys’ issue still required surgery to ensure he started next season “with a clean slate”.

In recent weeks utlity back Scott van Breda (shoulder), centre Ryan Mills (shoulder) and back rower Marco Mama (leg) have all undergone surgery.

But unlike those three players Solomons said Humphreys who has replaced the suspended Bryce Heem in the starting line-up would be able to finish the Gallagher Premiership campaign.

“Millsy, Scott and Marco have had an op,” Solomons said.

“The only off-season op that is scheduled is for Perry.

“He’s got an issue with his ankle but he will be fine.

“He says he is 100 per cent at the moment but we have got to just fix it up.

“Pre-season is the time to sort it out so he can start the season with a clean slate.”

Warriors’ players are set for a longer off-season with the 2019-20 campaign starting on September 21 – three weeks later than this term.

“We are starting the season a wee bit later,” Solomons added.

“But at the moment all the focus is naturally on concluding this season and playing as best as we can.

“Everyone will then get a break before we come back and get stuck in again.”
