WORCESTER Raiders face an anxious wait to discover their title fate after a charge was deemed proven relating to an abandoned fixture.

The Claines Lane club has been fined £175 for failure to control players, staff and/or supporters during a match at Bustleholme in March.

Raiders led 3-1 when a brawl involving players and staff from both clubs and members of the crowd broke out in the second minute of added time.

The points will be decisive in this season’s West Midlands (Regional) League (WMRL) Division One title race with Darlaston Town leading the way by two points notwithstanding any yield from this match.

WMRL rules state that if both clubs are deemed to have caused the abandonment then “the management committee shall rule that neither team will be awarded any points for that competition match and it shall not be replayed”.

League officials must now decide whether the proven charge relates directly to the abandonment, leaving Raiders in limbo.

Club chairman Kevin Jenkins said: “It is best they get it sorted as quickly as possible.

“We need to prepare for next season, is that going to be in the Premier Division or Division One?

“We are trying to push things along and be more proactive, a bigger and better club.

“I go to bed thinking about it and wake up thinking about it. It is consuming my whole life at the moment.

“We denied the charge because the problem started with Bustleholme’s manager going on to the pitch.

“We felt our players were just protecting themselves. We are disappointed to be found guilty but at the end of the day, the most important thing is the points.

“We were hoping it would get put to bed but it is clearly going to be a frustrating few days waiting.”

A WMRL representative confirmed a meeting had yet to be scheduled.
