BROMSGROVE Sporting bid for a third successive promotion when they host Corby Town in the Southern League Division One Central play-off final on Monday (3pm).

Sporting topped Midland League Division One and the Premier Division before finishing second this season at the higher level.

Last week's 3-2 extra-time victory over Sutton Coldfield Town in front of 1,849 fans at the Victoria Ground, thanks to Worcester-based Nathan Hayward's winner, booked the promotion shootout.

Midfielder Kieren Westwood said: "The players have set exceptional standards to churn out wins and it all stems from the support from the staff and fans.

“We finished the season strongly with only one loss in 14 and took that winning momentum into our semi-final.

“The performance was way below what we know we can produce but the best teams grind out wins when performance is lacking.

“Monday is a huge game for players, staff, fans and the club as a whole.

"We’re all expecting a huge turnout as usual and promotion is so close now that all it needs is one more big push from everyone to get us over the line.”

Goalkeeper Jono Brown said: “It is a massive day for us players and the club with only a victory being an acceptable outcome.

“I believe over the season we deserve to be promoted but we’ve got to go out against Corby, who are a good team, and earn it.”

Meanwhile, Alvechurch also look to continue their meteoric rise since winning the Midland League Premier Division in 2017.

Church shocked Stourbridge 2-1 at Lye Meadow on Saturday to reach Monday's Premier Division Central play-off final at King's Lynn Town (3pm).

The winners of the tie in Norfolk will travel to Warrington in the final promotion play-off clincher on Saturday.

The Glassboys, whose long-serving boss Gary Hackett resigned after the game, went ahead with a disputed Greg Mills penalty but strikes from substitute Andre Landell and forward James Roberts gave Church victory.

Church boss Ian Long said: “I’m immensely proud. The dream keeps going. The lads have dug in deep.

“Every one of them was superb. It’s still going to be difficult for us now going to King’s Lynn but I just can’t praise the players enough.”

Redditch United have appointed their former player Ian King as the new manager after Paul Smith's exit to Halesowen Town.

He has spent several years at the likes of Birmingham City and Northampton Town as a youth coach and at Leamington as assistant manager.

King, who also played in midfield for Stevenage and Kettering among other clubs, will continue his coaching role at Northampton.
