SIX Worcester St John's Cycling Club riders took part in the three-day veterans' Tour of the Abberleys stage race.

The prestigious event attracted quality teams from across the country.

In the over 50s category the top Worcester rider was Vince Page who got on the podium on stages two and three to finish well in eighth overall.

Richard Rollason made up time on the tough final day to finish 11th while Richard Graham was 21st.

The winner was Russell Harrington from Team Cyclo Cymru.

In the over 40s Richard Allcock also turned in a strong performance on the final day to move up into 13th overall.

After a promising start in the prologue Mark Corbett slipped back each day to 26th.

They were ably assisted by team-mate Adrian Bird in 28th.

Dave Griffiths from Clee Cycles won the title.

Meanwhile, 18 riders took part in the 20-mile Kinnersley Stoke time trial organised by Worcester St John’s.  Simon Garrett (Echelon) took the win in 44 minutes 29 seconds.

Home rider Jonny Bryan was second in 45.16 and Paul Guest third in 45.53.

Martin Lines clocked 48.04, Rikky Hughes 48.10, Martin Stanley 48.50, Martin Staines 49.27, Harry Tait 50.19, Andrew Milner 52.15, Julian Church 54.05, Aimee Lane 54.24, Chris Pettifer 54.31, Andrea Turner 57.23, Martin Lloyd 57.57, Jennie Daffin 58.43, Jamie May 59.13 and Jeff Grainger 1.04.46.
