OLD Vigornians defeated Worcestershire League Division Three leaders Netherton by one wicket after a batting collapse nearly cost them victory.

The Black Country side looked relatively untroubled after being put in to bat and had reached 99-2 before an OV fightback turned the game.

Russell Oseland (24) and Matthew Lowe (53) added 57 for the first wicket, but Netherton collapsed when Lowe was third out.

OV skipper Alex Parker (5-20) tore through the middle order, registering a second five-wicket haul in two games. Seamer Angus Guthrie took 4-44 in support.

If it had not been for Netherton captain Danny Lowe scoring 25 off 23 balls the Dudley team could easily have been dismissed for under 150.

In the end they were all out for 160 in the 50th over.

Lowe (3-30) and Dominic Priest (4-49) took early wickets but in-form Osman Fiaz (34) and Joe Sullivan (60) saw the Worcester side to a comfortable 120-3 when there was a sudden twist.

Eight of the OV batsmen scored seven runs between them as wickets kept tumbling.

After a match-winning performance last week Chris Drew was the hero again. He scored nearly all of the remaining 41 runs required, clinching the win with a boundary that took him to well-deserved half century. He ended on 53 not out.
