WORCESTERSHIRE Martial Arts' taekwondo students added to their medal collection at the International Open ITF Championships in Coventry.

It was the challengers' first competition at this standard with golds for Junko Steptoe and Kirsty Denslow.

Kieran Hodgson won silver medals in patterns, only missing out on winning overall by one point, and in sparring against higher grades after a close final match.

Steptoe, who has only been training with the Worcester club for nine months, claimed gold in patterns and bronze in sparring.

Rising star Denslow bagged a resounding gold in sparring against more experienced fighters.

Mike Fudger, in his first competition, got bronze in patterns.

Youngsters Rois Perkins, eight, and Zaria Fudger, seven, also gained valuable competition experience.

Club boss Sally Gleaves said: "I am really very proud of everything the team has achieved this year so far.

"WMA give them the tools and the coaching but their winnings are down to their own hard work and perseverance."
