SARAH Armstrong completed a hat-trick of wins at Worcester Athletic Club's Bulmers Bash.

The eighth running of the event saw more than 100 runners take part including competitors from Birmingham, Chichester and Croydon.

The hilly, challenging course around the orchards at Wichenford had been well prepared by the Bulmers staff cutting the grass and levelling the bumps to make running easier.

Armstrong, of Malvern Buzzards Running Club, was the first woman home in 45 minutes 16 seconds for a personal best and her third win over the years.

She was closely followed by Madeleine Armstrong Plieth, of Croydon Harriers, and Charlotte Reading, of Chichester Runners and Athletic Club.

Neil Laurenson, of Black Pear Joggers, was the first man home in 38.27 which was just outside the course record.

There was a sprint finish for second place with Andrew Salt, of Croft Ambrey Running Club, just edging out Richard Walsh, of Worcester Athletic Club, into third place.

The weather was ideal for running and the rain held off until the last person finished.

All competitors received a commemorative bottle opener and a bottle of cider courtesy of Bulmers.

A total of £750 has been raised to date and donated to the Midlands Air Ambulance.
