THE Worcestershire Cricket League Premier Division’s Worcester sides both enjoyed success after chasing targets.

Fifth-placed Old Elizabethans are still in contention for the top as they returned to winning ways when opener Ted Goodwin carried his bat for 60 not out to help beat Bewdley at Lower Park by three wickets.

Jamie Boyle added 50 and Sam Harn 32 not out as OEs pursued Bewdley’s 184 all out successfully with a reply of 188-7 in 38.1 overs to secure 20 points.

Huw Selvey took 3-29 and Alex Bastable 3-53 for OEs while Bewdley’s Jack Mills claimed 4-54 to add to his 46 with the bat.

Worcester also bagged 20 points as Mohammad Adeel’s 5-28 helped remove Stourport for 177 before the Norton-based side crept home by one wicket on 181-9.

The hosts were on 139-9 at one stage against their fellow strugglers before the last-wicket pair of Zain Hussain (27no) and Luke Deeprose (15no) put together an unbroken 42-run partnership to win with just one ball left.

Bryn Evans earlier top scored for Worcester with 41 while a late 43 for Stourport’s Stephen Yarsley and 41no from Sam Foley made the target more challenging.

Pershore lost to Astwood Bank while there were defeats in Division One for Bromyard, Worcester Nomads and bottom-of-the-table Droitwich Spa who fell to lowly rivals Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social.

Joint leaders Ombersley seconds shone in Division Two with a 275-run thrashing of basement boys Bartestree and Lugwardine.

Declan Lines (128), Dominic D’Oliveira (65) and a fine all-round performance from Ryan D’Oliveira (55no and 4-3) helped Ombersley romp home after amassing 337-6 and bowling the home side out for 62.

Worcester's Old Vigornians lost for the first time in Division Three since May.

OVs slipped out of the promotion places as a result to be replaced by the side they lost by eight wickets to in Old Hill seconds.

The hosts chose to bat first at King’s Hawford and got off to an excellent start thanks to captain Joe Sullivan and 15-year-old debutant Bill Wales.

The pair added 73 for the first wicket before Sullivan fell for 28 and Wales soon after for 43.

James Bader and Chris Drew (22) added 56 for the third wicket.

Bader (48) then put on 67 for the fourth wicket with Max Richardson (29) before wickets started to tumble.

The city side only added 49 runs and lost seven wickets in the final 10 overs to be bowled out for 249.

Sajid Aurangzeb (3-27) and Mohammed Javaid (2-30) were the pick of the attack.  After a lengthy rain delay Hill were set a revised target of 241 off 43 overs.

But despite the complex rain rules working in OVs’ favour Hill made light work of their task.

Iftikar Ali (60),  Harry Sekhon (54) and Tom Genders (84 not out) helped chase the target down with six overs to spare.

Only Ed Burgoyne (1-35) and Amelia Kite (0-32) on her first-team debut exerted much control.   Barnards Green seconds sit fourth after Will Dovey (109), Andy Wheeler (90) and Ben Sutton (52) helped compile 354-5 in a 65-run victory.

It proved too many for bottom-of-the-table Pershore seconds to chase despite 151no in return by Michael Hines in their 289 all out.

Kempsey are now fifth as they beat hosts Old Elizabethans seconds in a rain-reduced match by seven wickets.

Martley lost to Stourbridge seconds by three wickets in a rain-reduced run chase and struggling Rushwick fell by 59 runs at leaders Netherton.

Daniel Johnson scored 45 and Tom Vale 43 for Martley while Stuart Tipper managed 47 and Phil Hamilton 44 for Rushwick.

Worcester seconds leapfrogged Stourport seconds into the Division Four promotion places after beating the hosts by five wickets.

Neil Bailey (54) and Lawrence Neill (51) guided Stourport to 233-8 but Worcester reached the rain-revised target with 218-5 in 37 overs thanks to Harry Clark (78no), Mark Jones (46no) and skipper Josh Faulkner (35).

Will Lloyd scored 114no to ensure second-placed West Malvern kept up with the pace in Division Five as they beat Worcester Nomads seconds by seven wickets despite the best efforts of Derek Austin (99no).

Rory Mathews continued his fine season as he posted 92 for Hanley Castle and Upton to help beat Hagley seconds by four wickets.

Alex Fenn (4-17) led Droitwich Spa seconds to a seven-wicket victory at Feckenham seconds.
