WORCESTER Raiders have completed the signings of experienced duo Kirk Layton and Tim Beattie.

Midfielder Layton joins after leaving Stourport Swifts at the end of last season.

He has also played for Malvern Town and Bishop's Cleeve.

Centre-half Beattie has turned out for Evesham United, Littleton and Pershore Town in the past.

He returns after two seasons away from Saturday football.

Raiders, who have been promoted to the West Midlands League Premier Division, lost 3-1 at Team Dudley in their latest pre-season friendly.

Malvern Town tasted victory with a 3-0 pre-season success at higher-ranked Bishop’s Cleeve.

Ben Miller and Ethan Moran scored alongside an own goal.

“It was a good win and an excellent team performance,” said Malvern co-manager Lee Hooper.

“We were really pleased with the performance.

"It was a good workout for us and we were more fluent in possession than we have been in our previous games.

“We also worked hard to win the ball back out of possession and it was nice to see us keep a clean sheet.”

Malvern head up to Lancashire to take on Fulwood Amateurs on Saturday (3pm).

Droitwich Spa beat higher-ranked landlords Stourport Swifts 2-1 in pre-season.

Spa enjoyed the better of the first half with chances for Jack Davies, Jim Ward, Haydn Morris and Connor Collins.

The Saltmen broke the deadlock midway through as Davies was brought down in the area and Collins expertly dispatched the resulting spot-kick.

Swifts started the second period well with Nick MacPherson going close before they broke through the Spa defence to equalise clinically past onrushing keeper Matt Oliver.

Chris Conway nearly gave Swifts the lead but Spa were awarded a second penalty as a neat passing move culminated in Ben Tilbury being taken down in the box.

Collins once again stepped up to lash the ball past the home stopper.

Bromsgrove Sporting lost 3-2 to lower-ranked Boldmere St Michaels in a pre-season friendly with summer signing Leon Broadhurst and Kieren Westwood scoring.
