Worcestershire League: Old Elizabethans beat Pershore

On a rain-hit day when many matches were abandoned, OEs batted first at 4.30pm in a game reduced to 20 overs per side.

The Worcester visitors posted 197-0 as both openers remained undefeated with Will French (127 not out off 68 balls) leading the way alongside James Allen on 48no.

Young Harry Chivers (0-20) was the only bowler to go for less than nine runs an over.

Bottom-of-the-table Pershore fell well short on 130-9 in reply as Luke Allen (4-7 from four overs) and French (3-27) ensured the 20-point win.

Opener Owen Preston top-scored with 51 before he was caught and bowled by Luke Allen.

Premier Division leaders Stourbridge remain at the summit despite losing by 63 runs to visiting Chaddesley Corbett in fourth position.

Third-placed Astwood Bank beat Evesham by four wickets with the top four separated by just 21 points with six matches to play.

Bewdley climbed into fifth as Simon Mauger (86no) and Rob Combes (70) steered them to a comfortable 80-run victory against Worcester.

Colwall dodged the rain to seal a nine-wicket victory against bottom side Bredon which took them 44 points ahead at the top.

In Division Five, third-placed West Malvern slipped up with a five-wicket defeat at local rivals Hanley Castle and Upton.

Tony Hutchings took 4-9 from 2.2 overs in West's 101 all out before George Lechmere (33) helped Hanley to victory on 102-5.

Droitwich Spa seconds won by five runs at Malvern after dismissing their hosts for 142 in reply to 147-7.

Rhys John scored 41 for Spa and Tom Hodgson took 3-28 with Tom Fairclough claiming 3-18 for Malvern.
