WORCESTER St John’s Cycling Club's young rider Harry Tait enjoyed his maiden road race win.

He triumphed in a TLI Worcestershire Road Race Series contest after three laps of the 10-mile circuit on the new, undulating Defford course.

In a field of more than 40 riders, the 16-year-old, who attends Royal Grammar School Worcester, held steady in the lead group before making a solo attack for victory with around one mile to go.

Tait held off a fast-approaching pack of riders who were within 25 metres of his lone breakaway on the uphill finish when he hit the line.

Exhausted by his effort, he was elated at the win.
