NEW Worcester City signing Sean Brain bagged a hat-trick on his debut as a substitute to see off nine-man hosts Selston 4-1 today.

The action-packed encounter saw City secure a first win in the last three Midland Football League Premier Division games in spectacular fashion.

The Nottinghamshire side placed an early free header over the bar before City took advantage of a defensive error with the opening goal through Demetri Brown.

City's forward intercepted a ball on the edge of the box before firing home on the half-hour mark at The Parish Hall.

Jordan Harrison had an effort ruled out for offside and then Luke English guided a Liam Lockett corner wide of the target.

Selston were reduced to 10 men on 40 minutes with a red card for Joe Naylor after a coming-together of players following a strong challenge.

City started the second period looking for a second goal with Lockett and Craig Jones forcing saves from the keeper.

But Selston levelled despite the man disadvantage with Joe Hawkins heading into his own net after Worcester failed to clear a corner.

City brought on subs Colin Smith, Josh Willis and former Evesham United forward Brain with the latter going on to have a major impact.

The visitors were handed a 75th-minute penalty with Selston's Sean Gregory sent off for a second yellow card after bringing down Brain in the box.

The striker picked himself up to make no mistake from the spot with the home side now down to nine men.

Willis placed a strike just wide before Brain took over with his second goal in the final minute of normal time.

He tapped in Brown's low ball across the box after the forward had burst clear down the left.

And Brain completed his hat-trick with a strike across the keeper into the bottom corner two minutes into injury-time to seal City's third victory in six league games.

Worcester host league rivals Highgate United at Bromsgrove's Victoria Ground in the Buildbase FA Vase second qualifying round on Saturday (3pm).
