IT was a sweet under 16s for Bromsgrove’s Stuart Shannon with a tennis title brace at the Cane Furniture Studio Hereford and Worcester County Closed Championships.
Shannon defeated Joe Hart 7-6, 6-2 in the under 16s singles and then teamed up with Jim Round to beat Harvey Ravenscroft and James Stanford 6-1, 6-4 in the doubles.
But Callum Treasurer thwarted hopes of a hat-trick for Shannon at Manor Park, Malvern, when he defeated the teenager in the men’s singles final 6-3, 6-2.
As previously reported, Worcester’s Kate Horsburgh won the women’s singles crown and the doubles with Imogen Sinclair defeating Katy and Sally Lewin.
Sinclair also claimed the under 18s singles crown as well as the age group's mixed doubles with Scott Mortimer.
Worcester duo Jon Bradshaw and Billy Wright defeated Josh Hughes and Liam Hadfield to take the men’s doubles.
There were 327 entries in the events and 431 matches over the week.
H&W LTA president Ian King thanked Alan and Di Cope from the sponsors and tournament referee Ed Bradford and his team.
