WORCESTER City fans are being warned to avoid parking fines near Bromsgrove Sporting’s Victoria Ground after the introduction of charges at the nearby Artrix Arts Centre.

Spectators have taken advantage of free parking on the site near to City’s groundshare base but now must pay 80p per hour.

“It used to be free and we would promote that fact. Unfortunately there is a charge now but there are other areas,” said chairman Steve Goode.

“It is a shame when people are having to make the effort to travel that they have to then find that extra bit of money.

“Hopefully it won’t deter people from watching games. Most councils charge for parking so we have been lucky until now.”

But the biggest stumbling block according Goode is how fans are expected to pay with no on-site facility and only phone and internet transactions available.

City has put together a list of alternatives on its website and will dish out copies to fans at Saturday’s FA Vase tie at home to Highgate United.

“A lot of our fans are elderly and don’t use mobile phones, they are old school so that is disappointing,” added Goode.

“We have put together some information on local parking which we will do everything we can to get out to people.”
