WORCESTER Warriors made double the amount of metres than Bath in Saturday’s Premiership Cup defeat.

Alan Solomons’ side ran with the ball for 581 metres at The Rec whereas Bath clocked 293.

Warriors also made more clean breaks (23) and offloads (14) and beat more defenders (46) compared to Bath who registered six, nine and 21 respectively.

However, it was the home side that ran out 36-28 winners.

The most telling statistic for Solomons’ men was the first-half possession where Warriors achieved just 25 per cent as Bath ran in three of their five tries to lead 24-7 at the break.

Worcester also had only a 60 per cent success rate in the scrum, losing two from their own feed, although their cause was not helped by injuries tighthead props Nick Schonert and Richard Palframan.

Statistically, scrum-half Francois Hougaard was the stand out Warriors player as he made 103 metres from a whopping 17 carries and weighed in with 11 tackles.

The Sixways talisman also made five clean breaks and beat six defenders – the latter only bettered by summer signing Melani Nanai who got away from eight tacklers and made 117 metres.

In the forwards, prop Callum Black produced a fine defensive effort as he completed 14 tackles and only missed one.

Hooker Niall Annett made the same amount but missed two while lock Andrew Kitchener made 11 and did not miss any.

Back rower Cornell du Preez also impressed with 10 carries, 40 metres made, two offloads and 10 tackles completed.
