GIRLS' football is flourishing at Worcester City Youth with the club set to launch another team.

Big interest in the women’s game, particularly after England's World Cup displays, is inspiring a new generation of players, according to under 11s coach Steve Birmingham.

He runs Wildcats sessions at the University of Worcester on Sundays for girls aged from five to 11.

Birmingham said: “We have places available to any girls interested in joining the 20-plus regular attendees at Wildcats who are developing so well we’ve decided to start an under nines team that we will hopefully get off the ground in the coming weeks.

“All being well the new team can mirror the progress and enjoyment being made by the under 11s who are already having a tremendous season.

“They are a great group of girls drawn from different schools but sharing a love of the game and now playing some fantastic football together.”
