JAMIE Smith is a doubt for Worcester City’s home clash with Coventry United tomorrow (7.45) following a recurrence of his neck troubles.

The left wing-back was withdrawn at half-time of Saturday’s 1-1 draw at South Normanton Athletic to be replaced by Dan Okojie, his first appearance since suffering an ankle injury.

But having got one option back it seems the other will be on the sidelines in midweek.

“Jamie was tight in the warm-up and had a neck and back problem at the end of last season,” said manager Ashley Vincent.

“It recurred a little bit at South Normanton and we hope it is not as serious as before. He was not at full tilt in the first half and it would have been irresponsible for me to send him back out for the second.

“He said he needed to come off and I think that was a responsible decision from Jamie, these things can catch you cold and it was a safety measure more than anything else.”

On the prospect of Smith playing against United, Vincent added: “His chances are slim. If we can get it loosened up then he has a chance of being involved but if that is not the case we have Dan Okojie.

“Dan was a bit rusty on Saturday having been out but this is his chance to step back in, that’s what a squad is for.”
