GROUND grading chiefs will revisit Nunnery Wood Sports Complex tomorrow (Friday) with prospective tenants Worcester Raiders "confident" of getting the green light to host Smethwick Rangers Saturday (3pm).

West Midlands (Regional) League chairperson Wendy Juggins confirmed last weekend's home clash with Wolverhampton Sporting Community had been called off due to a failed inspection of facilities at Raiders' temporary home.

The club has yet to play in Worcester this season due to delayed redevelopment work at Claines Lane by landlords Worcestershire FA.

Having initially planned to put temporary facilities in place there, Raiders announced last month that Nunnery Wood turned out to be the only viable option while the county association builds new changing rooms and office facilities to go alongside the floodlights that have been erected.

Only basic provision would have been required at Claines Lane due to special dispensation from the national FA but the move means Raiders must comply with grade H which left them with work to do and led to last weekend's late postponement.

"We will be notified whether it has passed or not after the inspection," confirmed Juggins.

"Last week would have been too much of a rush, the inspectors went in and gave the club a list of what needed to be done before the match could be played.

"They needed a paybox, toilets for spectators on the ground and the pitch needed to be adjusted, it was not of the required length.

"It has to be up to the H grade with lights and that list of things would achieve it but this is only until Claines Lane is brought up to standard.

"The FA's dispensation has been given based on (being at) Claines Lane so at some point they will have to go back there.

"They were given the time to do the work and we have been informed it has been done."

Committee member and volunteer Stephen Harris has been helping to orchestrate the work and expressed confidence Raiders would get over the line.

"From the conversations we have had we are confident there won't be any issues," said Harris.

"I think we have everything in place and they seem happy with what we have told them, hopefully it will be a case of getting it all signed off.

"With all the effort that has gone in it is a shame it has been raining like it has but at least we will know we have the grading if it is all okay.

"The pitch did not look too bad earlier this week, the weather is meant to get better so there's a chance it will dry out in time."
