THE weekend’s fixtures at Perdiswell were washed out but several Worcester City Youth players still made a splash after being called up to senior sides.

Injuries, absences and late withdrawals saw several under 21s selected for the reserves.

They grasped the opportunity in style by helping them to a 3-0 win over Redditch United and second place in the Midland Football League Reserve Division.

Defenders Zach Bowater and Shuah-Anthony Okonmah protected a clean sheet and were given a run-out alongside forwards Mati Klich and Matty Patrick-Rivers.

Jacob Keane, new captain Matt Ennis and Patrick-Rivers scored.

The quartet’s elevation resulted in the under 21s drafting in a number of fringe players for the trip to Kidderminster Harriers where they held their own in the first half against a more senior, full-time outfit.

A Kane Harold goal took City into the break at 1-1 before Harriers’ experience came to the fore in the second period as they eventually finished 4-1 winners.

A hat-trick by Kyle Clayton and further strikes by Ashton Doyle (2) and Jayson Bennett gave the Under 12s a 6-4 victory at WBA Foundation in the Nerf Junior Football League.

Their counterparts in the Midland Junior Football League were unlucky after being narrowly beaten by a single goal in a close-fought contest with Solihull Moors.

After falling two goals behind the under 13s battled back to draw with Gloucester City and could have taken all the points after twice hitting the woodwork.

Hayden Pegg and Lewis Tolley notched their goals.

Another side showing resilience to hit back from a 2-0 deficit were the under 10s in their fixture with Pro Pathway while both teams shone in the under nines match with Warndon Villages Cobras.

City’s under 18s turned in an accomplished performance in the Midland Floodlit Youth League Cup to see of Racing Club Warwick 2-0.

A precise Tom Griffin through-ball set up Patrick-Rivers to tuck home the first goal which was added to by Tom Mills from the penalty spot after Owen Oxley had been brought down.

City bowed out of the Worcestershire FA Under 15s Cup following a 6-2 loss at Nunnery Wood Colts.
