LIVE: Coventry Sphinx v Worcester City

Our live feed has now finished.

  • FULL-TIME: Sphinx 3 (Hammond 25, Faulkner 31, 45+3) City 2 (Brain 15, Adaggio 58)
  • A TRIO of poorly-defended set pieces cost City in a 3-2 defeat on a bog of a pitch at Coventry Sphinx.
  • The soft conditions made passing tough for both sides and although Sean Brain handed City a 15th-minute lead, Sphinx’s aggressive press forced enough errors to come back to lead 3-1 at the break.
  • City had all the pressure in the second half and cut the deficit just before the hour mark through Marco Adaggio but chances to level were few and far between.
  • Substitute Jordan Harrison had a last-ditch opportunity but could not find the finish that would have rescued a point on a horrible afternoon.
  • Keeper Dan Jezeph missed out through illness with frontrunner Demetri Brown failing a late fitness test and both were missed in this war of attrition.
  • Sphinx snapped into tackles and played on the edge but got picked off after a quarter of an hour when Adaggio touched back to Chris Withington to release Brain in behind to race in, round keeper Tom Cross and then beat Patsun Tufan who had retreated to the line.
  • Sphinx levelled 10 minutes later after Luke English had dived in to scythe down Charlie Faulkner with Lewis Noon bendig in the free-kick that Scott Hammond forced in with a header that went in off Gabriel Bajrami having hit the bar.
  • Another foul on City’s right produced the second, Faulkner glancing in a another Noon free-kick from the left.
  • Loz Rawlings brought the best out of Bajrami eight minutes before half-time with a low driven shot after being played in by Hammond but the third arrived three minutes past the first 45, Mo Billy threatening to convert a corner from inside the six yards box before Faulkner bundled in.
  • The City response was encouraging after the interval, playing into space on the right with Harrison creating plenty of problems but crosses from him and English were not met by finishes.
  • Luke Rowe’s free-kick was headed over by the perfectly-placed English but the pressure eventually told.
  • A ball over the top was chased by Brain with the nudge away dropping to Adaggio who passed in from 20 yards in the 58th minute, catching Cross flat footed.
  • The pressure kept coming and Sphinx rode their luck with some late challenges from players on bookings, although the hosts did continued to carry a punchy threat on the break through Faulkner and Rawlings.
  • A change of shape to deal with issues from the right invited more City pressure but that did not result in chances until Harrison slammed off target when unchallenged from point-blank range at the far post.
