FIGHTERS from Worcester City Amateur Boxing Club travelled overseas as part of a team selected to face their counterparts from Ireland and Northern Ireland.

First up for Worcester on his debut bout was junior Demetrius Aceto who faced Irish hosts Raphoe's Daire Feeney.

Aceto had early success against a more experienced opponent but failed to keep that going.

After three well-contested rounds Aceto lost on a unanimous points margin.

Ryan Jones outpointed the promising Kyle McGonalie from St Brigid's in a skilful bout.

Jones showed his class with movement and fast hands as the display earned him the best English boxer of the night award.

Next up was the ever-improving James Scarrott against the awkward southpaw Charles McDonagh from Cookstown ABC, Northern Ireland.

Scarrott took time to find his range but once in the zone he put McDonagh down in the third with a left hook to the body.

McDonagh failed to get up off the canvas and was counted out to reward Scarrott with a late stoppage.

Light middleweight Pat Morgan faced Finbar Donaghy from Carrickmore, Northern Ireland.

Morgan rounded off a fine display from the Worcester contingent to win by way of a unanimous points decision.

His combinations were too good and fast for the home fighter to deal with at times.

Morgan’s relentless style is proving a problem to most boxers he has faced recently and Donaghy was no exception.
