WORCESTER Hockey Club men’s firsts let a potential first win of the Midland League Division One season slip away.

They ended up drawing 2-2 at home to Old Halesonians with a slightly changed team.

The visitors thought they had scored early on but after consultation the umpires disallowed the effort.

Worcester responded with Matt Gardner and Rees Bonham linking up down the right.

An inch-perfect pass from Bonham to Jack Townsend resulted in an easy tap-in.

But Old Hales responded quickly with a goal after a good first save from keeper Tom Dalton to leave the game poised at 1-1 at half-time.

Worcester took the lead again early in the second period from an initial penalty-corner strike from Chris Whitmore which was deflected in by Bonham.

The hosts looked destined for the win but with four minutes to go a ball played across their goal deflected off a defender’s foot past the sprawling Dalton for the equaliser.

Third-from-bottom Worcester, who visit mid-table Sutton Coldfield on Saturday, remain two points above Old Hales with both sides still chasing a first victory.

Worcester men’s seconds lost 3-2 to Stourport and the thirds fell 5-0 to West Brom firsts.

But the fourths continued their winning run with a deserved 3-1 victory over Harborne, moving up to second in the process.

Goals from Max Batchelor, a penalty flick from Malcolm Evans and one from Dan Howgego secured the success.

The fifths also won, beating West Brom 6-2 with one each for Ollie Betteridge, Dave Shepherd, Tom Howard, Alex Kloda, York Senior and Andy Waters.

Worcester's sixths and sevenths lost 4-2 to Bridgnorth and 16-0 to Birmingham University respectively.

Andy Griffin and Zac Goodman scored for the sixths.

In the women’s section the first XI game was postponed as the opposition had travel difficulties.

Worcester seconds just lost 1-0 to leaders Harborne but the thirds got their deserved first win of the season.

They beat Bournville 3-2 with Charlotte Bowyer among the scorers.

The fourths beat Harborne 4-1 with goals from Jodie Dodgson (2), Daisy Stone and Kerry Lawrence.

The mixed first XI won their English Hockey Cup match 4-2 on penalties after drawing 2-2 at full-time with goals from Ryan Harding and Matt Gardner.

There were successful penalties from Gardner, Ailsa Richardson, Whitmore and Matt Kettley.

The mixed second XI beat Malvern Dipsticks 2-1 with goals from Griffin and Kev Oliver.

In the junior section, the Potters beat Droitwich 2-1 and the Pippins ran out convincing winners against Stourport 12-1.
