BOSS Ashley Vincent’s second half-time “rocket” in five days helped Worcester City see off Romulus 3-0 – his side's seventh win in eight outings.

Sean Brain’s penalty, an own goal and a late coup de grace from Marco Adaggio saw City enjoy this latest Midland Football League Premier Division success at the Victoria Ground.

Adaggio smacked the underside of the bar from Demetri Brown’s deflected cross and while City made a bright start, chances began to dry up as the half went on.

The deadlock was broken five minutes after the restart when Adaggio got caught by an outstretched leg just inside the box and Brain did the honours from 12 yards, guiding into the corner.

A bout of penalty-area pinball led to the second with 15 minutes to play, Luke English getting a touch before a Romulus player inadvertently diverted into his own net.

Brain cut in from the left and arced a ball to the far post for Adaggio to seal the deal, slamming in a third past exposed keeper Paul Hathaway.

“It was similar to Saturday in that we were slow out of the blocks again,” said Vincent.

"Again I gave them a bit of a rocket at half-time, albeit in a positive way, we were performing well but had to pick up the energy and tempo.

“We did that in the second half and had too much for them to be honest.

“It was a good boost for Brainer, he has had indifferent results from the penalty spot over the season but he was always confident and so were we.

“From there confidence flowed through the side and we started the pass the ball very well.

“We got the second and the third was a really nice goal, Brainer playing in a very nice ball for Marco to finish coolly in the way we know we can.

“It was probably the hardest chance of the few he had but again, he got his goal and remains full of confidence.

“Every time he goes towards goal he feels he is going to score and that’s a real positive all round.”
