- FT: Boldmere 3 (Parry 30, 54, Cooke 39) City 2 (Brain 53p, Johnson 56 og)
- CITY’S latest comeback mission proved a bridge too far in a 3-2 defeat at Boldmere St Michaels.
- The balance of play was pretty even during the first half but the Mikes led 2-0 at the break courtesy of two preventable goals – Owen Parry’s looping header and Josh Cooke’s low finish across goal.
- Three goals in four second-half minutes before the hour mark lit the blue touch paper with Sean Brain’s penalty quickly responded to through Parry’s deflected effort.
- City halved the deficit again and quickly with Liam Lockett’s cross turned into his own net by Jermaine Johnson.
- In customary fashion, City dominated the rest of the match and created chances but could not find an equaliser.
- Both teams cancelled each other out for 15 minutes at which point Boldmere blew a big chance to move in front, Jack Skinner clearing the bar with a diving header from point-blank range.
- City started building up a head of steam, Jordan Harrison and Marco Adaggio forcing stops from Matt Coton but sucker punch one got landed on the half-hour mark.
- Cooke was left free to dig out a cross from a near-stationary stance on the right corner of the box and Parry raced in with a looping header back across goal that nestled in the top corner.
- Parry was a fraction away from a second in as many minutes when his swirling free-kick bent just beyond the post but the second soon arrived, Craig Jones allowing a ball over the top to bounce with Cooke finishing low across goal from the left of the box six minutes before half-time.
- City started the second half well with shots and crosses raining in, leading to the lifeline from the penalty spot.
- Luke English was pushed near the post and Brain bounced in his penalty off the right upright seven minutes into the second half.
- Livewire Parry grabbed the situation by the scruff of the neck to surge straight through the centre, his 20-yard shot cannoning off Jones and deceiving an already-diving Jezeph to trickle in.
- Back came City, though, with Johnson unable to divert away when facing his own goal.
- City had Boldmere camped in their box but the talismanic Harry Craven pivotal in clearing the danger on many occasions.
- Everyone drew breath when a low driven cross found Lockett at point-blank range but the bounce was unkind with substitute Demetri Brown and Lockett frustrated as time ticked towards the final 10 minutes.
- Lockett continued to pick pockets of space as the home side tired, while Brown cut back for a free Adaggio to thump high and wide of the near post before the big chance came as the clock struck 90.
- Chris Withington forced his way into the box as Boldmere uncharacteristically opened up like the Grand Canyon and Brain would have had a tap in from his low cross-shot had he not waited for it, Craven cutting across to hack away.
