UP-AND-COMING Droitwich trainer Max Young started the new point-to-point season in style with a winner at Ffos Las.

Taboo romped home by 12 lengths in the two-mile, five-furlong jockey club open maiden for mares and fillies at the west Wales course to provide rider Kai Lenihan with his second career success.

The 10-year-old mare led the field from start to finish and jumped superbly throughout in only her second run in the blue and white colours of Max Young Racing following her third place at Cottenham last month.

The young trainer appears to have transformed the steed since joining the yard following a 25-race losing sequence in Ireland.

Young is confident this early success will stand his Snead's Green yard in good stead for a busy few months of racing that begin with a hectic festive period.

He is set to have runners at several meetings before New Year’s Day weather permitting.

Young, who is also well-known in local sporting circles as Droitwich Spa Cricket Club captain, also hopes his win will help attract local owners into point-to-point.

“Only three years ago I was training a couple of horses in the afternoon after I finished my work riding out for other yards but since turning full-time in August 2017 we’re now training 21 horses and generating lots of interest,” said Young.

“It’s brilliant to get a winner from our early-season runners and I couldn’t be happier at how the yard is progressing with a great team around me who are equally driven to succeed and share the very highest standards when it comes to looking after our horses and their owners.”

Taboo is likely to run again at Chaddesley and hoping to build on her great start while fellow stablemate Windy Writer will be given an entry in the maiden race for six-year-olds and over if the ground conditions are suitable.

Both horses along with 10-year-old Baby Jake are the focus of interest for members of the Max Young Racing Club that has been recently launched to provide equine enthusiasts with a fun and affordable way of being involved in point-to-point and an ambitious county yard.

“We would be delighted to welcome new members and Chaddesley would be an ideal meeting for them to attend as it’s a very sociable day with everyone still in festive spirit and enjoying some fresh air after the excesses of Christmas Day and Boxing Day,” Young continued.

“The majority of existing members are local so should be out in force and hopefully we can reward them for their interest and support with another visit to the winner’s enclosure.”
